Our home- from- home Baker

My interest in cooking and baking started from an early age. Growing up in the wilds of Northumberland my Mother was a very traditional cook, she taught me all the classic recipes and this has certainly influenced my cooking style today.

Home Economics was by far my favourite lesson at school and the subject I seemed to excel most in. After studying A Level Home Economics, I went onto Dundee University to study MA (Hons)Food & Welfare studies and in 2003 graduated with a 1st Class Degree and prizes in Food Product Development. After graduation I was keen to come back to the North East to pursue a career in the food industry. I joined Greggs the Bakers as a graduate trainee in Food Technology working from their Head Office in Newcastle.

After over 10 years with the company I had gained a great insight into the Bakery industry and worked my up through various departments to become Product Manager for the Sweet & Bread Categories. Working with the development team and selecting new products for the range certainly kept me up to date with new food trends and fuelled my passion for replicating some of these recipes and styles at home.

Swapping my busy demanding career for motherhood in 2012, I continue to bake and enjoy catering for kids parties, friends celebrations, entering local shows or simply baking with my toddler on a rainy day. I would describe myself as a traditional home baker and look forward to sharing some of my recipes, skills and tips with you at Outcook.
